Hey everyone,
Good morning 🌄 or noon 🌞 or night 🌕 , or whatever time you are reading this post
This is my personal review of the book 10 Steps to earning awesome grades while studying less
Ratings for the book ( Max 5 ) :
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My Impression about the book:
The book is divided into 10 segments and the author Thomas Frank advises you to consider it as levels in a Mega Man game , So after each level you acquire a new power similar to a game. The book is written in a nice conversational 🤔 way such that it resonates with you so easily ( in a student perspective ) This book really changed the way I consider studying and it made me realize how easy it is to score good grades if are consistent and disciplined. It deals whole range of studying from Class time to group discussion sessions. Even though some of it's advises are suitable only for college students but that's only a 0.1% I can say. The tools and app recommendations are great I recommend everyone reading this post to give it a try.

Getting More Out of Your Textbooks
The key ideas from this section are
Don’t Do All Your Assigned Reading 📚
Know How You’ll Be Assessed
Don’t Read Textbooks Like Newspapers 🗞️
5 Active Reading Strategies
The only acronym-based reading system I recommend is SCAR: • Stop • Complaining • And • Read
Read the Chapter Backwards
Create Questions While You Read
Pay Attention to Formatting in books like bolded words
Summarize What You Read to others or to yourself
Defeating Procrastination
Changing the procrastinating words into inspiring words
I don’t feel like it - but I’m going to do it anyway.”
Understanding the Procrastination Equation
Motivation is a product that we get after knowing about our expectancy about the task completion , the value of the task for us and also knowing How likely you are to get sidetracked and how much time will it take to accomplish this and get the reward from it
Build Strong Habits
Avoid Low-Density Fun - The type of fun which you are not actually enjoying like the scrolling of Instagram and avoiding videogames heavy heartedly
Use the Pomodoro Technique
When All Else Fails, Bring the Pain - In this tip the author explains how he used Beeminder to
actually wake up early , The idea is that " it’s undeniable that pain can be a motivating factor. If the
result of not doing a task is much less pleasant than actually doing it, we’ll always do it.
Planning Efficiently
The author describes two different modes in a smart student
Planning Mode vs. Robot Mode
A successful student doesn’t spend very much time on this problem at all because they know how to effectively split their time between their Planning mode and their Robot mode
Plan Out Your Entire Education - Make an outline of the course you are learning
Plan Your Week on Sunday
Understand Task Contexts - whether high intense or low intense
Create a Daily Plan
Try Timeboxing
Know Thy Fudge Ratio - people almost always underestimate the time needed to get something done ,
Pavlina’s Fudge Ratio acknowledges the Planning Fallacy and offers up a simple process for fixing it:
Write down a list of tasks you need to do.
Put an “off-the-cuff” time estimate on each one.
As you finish tasks, write down the actual amount of time they took.
Divide the actual task time by your estimate to get your Fudge Ratio
Use the Captain America Method( just a fancy name ) to Break Down Projects
