For what and whom will this be helpful?
For serial procrastinators and busy beings on earth
Hey everyone,
If you ever felt there is so much time for the task at your hand and it needs only a milli second (exaggerating) of your time , so you tell to yourself let's do it tonight which delays up to the tonight before deadline ... 😨
This is the phenomenon that I named as " The plenty of empty time "(P.O.E.T) 😅 sounds stupid but most of us would have felt this at some stage in our life . The term illustrates you know our weakness in handling time " we think we have plenty of time but as we are not making use of those precious hours we end up making those time as empty " . So now we have understood that our mindset brings this phenomenon of plenty of empty time into our lives . Let's begin the most awaited (trumpet sound ) tackling part
So I am gonna divide this tackling part into 4 divisions or as I call " levels "
Identify
Classify
Solve
Maintain the pace
Yah! these may seem like parts in taxonomy but stick with it and I can assure you 80% that you can get out of this POET trap
1. Identify 🔍
The beginning step for all complex problems is to find where there is a slippery slope in your approach of solving the issue . Ask yourself why you are in the position of not completing a particular task ? May be it is because you are so lethargic like me falling into the P.O.E.T trap or may be you actually don't have enough time or you time management is very poor...........like these address your issue of where you are lacking. I would like to remind you a saying or quote which inspired me
Twinkle Twinkle little star ; you should know who you are
(just kidding let's move onto next )
2. Classify 🧗🏻♂️
Congrats you have found your weakness that's the best thing you have done in your life for self improvement . Ok the next step is to classify your slope in any one of the type below (may be you can figure some other types and their solutions but the point I want to make is that understand your fault)
The POET trap - So as I have mentioned early in the post it is the " Plenty of Empty time " , you think you have more time but suddenly you realize the deadline is few hours away and you feel overwhelmed ( like swimming in a endless ocean ) , we doods pile up things every now and again unaware of the consequences telling to ourselves that there is a lot of time we can do it another day also the task is not that hard it's just a piece of cake 🥮 but before the deadline's night we are under tremendous pressure which we ourselves have made by piling up things
Serial procrastinator- This issue is some what related to the lost in the forest type , will explain later about that . As the name illustrates you are being a master at procrastinating at things which are important 🤔
Making of a time manager - If you are in this category don't worry you are not at the dangeroues POET trap but you are at the third most dangerous issue of not managing your time properly like making unrealistic timetables , not being punctual and so on......
Lost in a forest - The final type is that you are not brave enough to take a decision firmly on a particular issue , as a result you procrastinate and delay those things and you become a serial procrastinator jumping to the second dangerous level. 😑
3. Solve 📝
As usual the solutions are of a great range but that's so much for a post like this , so I am gonna give just few great principles and tactics you can use which personally helped me a lot from getting over these traps , I would also suggest you to dig deep into the topic by reading few books related to this links below (end of the page ) 👇
The Daily Highlight - Setting a priority for your day , you can learn more about this topic by reading the book Make time and also reading my post on this topic 🤩
Parkinson's Law - A famous as well as old principle I think 🤔 may be I don't know but the principle is that ( more suitable for we guys P.O.E.T )
Work fills the time you allocate to it
So , it prompts into the idea of setting artificial deadlines to boost up our " productivity "
2 minute rule - Actually this rule tells us to complete the task immediately which we think will take less than 2 minutes , if you want to know more about this read the bible of productivity "Getting things done by David Allen "
To Dos - General rule or basic unit of productivity that is writing down all the things you want to do and clear your mind and don't forget about the list which I often do set timers ( advisable ) and work on those one by one by one..........
Reward - Our human brains is designed in such a way that we do only fruitful things (mostly) . so give yourself rewards that you enjoy and look forward which is preached by one of my favorite productivity gurus ( link at end of the post)
So that is it only 5 but you can find more on this topic ( I could say infinite ideas) read books , listen to productivity gurus and mainly try all and select the vehicle that suits you
4. Maintain the pace 🏃
Consistency is the key to success
a old but very true saying , Do your job then and there and make your ways to success which is inevitable again if you are consistent
For this I would suggest the two day rule , this rule is that don't slip away from your routine of following your tactics to complete the task more than two successive days
Finally I want to say only one thing
Well done is better than well said
So don't just stop by reading this post apply this and become a productivity guru one day like I am trying to be ( lie )
Finally final tip
Do the task at your hand!
